Shades of Gray: The Desert

Amber sat in her car, staring out the windshield. The car was parked on the side of the road, four ways flashing. The air in the desert was cool that night. Her cell phone battery was dying quicker than normal, which is never a good thing when you are lost, so she made one last call. As Amber talked to her husband, the radio began to change channels. She stared at the radio for a moment while trying to describe her location over the phone. Not being able to take it anymore, she reached down and pushed the off button. Nothing. She reached over and pushed it again. Still nothing. She went back to her conversation only to find that the phone was dead. Then… the radio went silent. The silence was unnerving. She turned the key to start her car with no effect. She could hear her heart pounding in her chest when all of a sudden; she heard a low level hum. The air became stale. Suddenly, a bright light blinded her from all sides. The hair on her body stood up while her retinas burned from the extreme light all around. Her skin began to blister as if she were being consumed by fire. Amber screamed for help as her skin melted away. Her body started to rise from the seat towards the roof.  In one final scream, she was incinerated, leaving only her phone on the car seat.

The light faded away.
